Byron is a result driven professional with over 19 years in the IT industry and major data centres throughout Australia. Byron has a very strong design focus with a ‘hands on’ approach and technical knowledge. His qualifications as a heavy industry electrician from the Yabulu Nickel Refinery in North Queensland, bring a tremendous understating of the way power systems form the backbone of Data Centres.
Experience and Qualifications
Entering into the field of ICT, Byron steadily advanced his career from PC Technician to the fields of Network Technician, System Administration and on to ICT Management. Byron then became proficient in the areas of Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity where his electrical background again became a key foundation skill when advising and consulting on Data Centres. Byron’s entrance into Strategic Directions brought his skills to bear on Australia’s only Tier III+ data centre, Polaris. From final construction through testing and commissioning phases Byron acted as the Landlord representative and Design Authority in dealings with builders, contractors and facilities managers. Byron continues to provide specialist data centre advisory services to Polaris, its Tenants and Owners. Byron has also held data centre and facility manager roles with Enterprise Data Corporation and Pipe Networks respectively. Byron’s other major achievements include, design and commissioning of ENERGEX and Sunshine Coast Council data centres, design and functional specification for Air Services Australia data centres and a major role in the design and implementation of Pipe Networks Cable Landing Station in Sydney. Byron has also been responsible for site surveys, data centre audits, re-design and specialist advice on a number of other Data Centre’s in Queensland and interstate. These include major clients such as SPARQ, Department of Premier & Cabinet Tasmania, Super Retail Group, Logan City Council, University of Canberra, South Australian Police and Wyndham City Council.
Michael Basher, Senior Business Advisor
Overview Prior to working at the Strategic Directions Group, Michael has over 20 years’ experience in the ICT industry, covering strategy, design and management across primarily Government sectors.
Michael completed his electronics apprenticeship, and continued tertiary education in Engineering and Telecommunications with the Australian Defence Force. Michael has been deeply involved in a number of high profile communications networks of critical and strategic importance both in regional areas of interest and overseas. Michael has also provided communication support to contingency planning and assisted in the telecommunication response to high profile humanitarian disasters. Michael has been functionally responsible of communications planning, communication operations management, network management, fleet management, equipment maintenance, training, risk management, resource management, human resources, technical advice, project management, procurement, sustainment, compliance, corporate governance and management reporting. Michael also has an extensive background in satellite/space communications and other line of sight communications technologies.
Michael is a qualified PRINCE2 Practitioner; and has recently completed a number of engagements as a Project Manager of ICT Management teams assisting major Federal Government, State Government and Local Government departments with ICT strategies and telecommunications engagements.
