Mike holds a number of Director level positions across the ICT and telecommunications industry.
Appointed to the Board of Directors of AFCOM’s Data Center Institute in the USA in April 2010, Mike has since represented the Institute on the Data Centre World Expert Panel, on Data Centre Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (2011), Data Center Trends (2012), Total Cost of Ownership (2013- 2016), and co-authored a number of Whitepapers. A regular speaker at data centre industry events including Data Center World in the USA and AFCOM’s Asia Pacific Data Centre Symposium, Mike maintains his data centre design and operations knowledge with frequent international data centre and vendor reviews, and data centre redevelopment projects.
Mike is a Director and National Data Centre Practice Manager of The Strategic Directions Group, an advisory firm specialising in IT, Telecommunications and Data Centre Strategy. He was the Design Authority for the world-class 14,000sqm Polaris Data Centre (a $240M Tier III N+2, high security, 20MW facility) at Springfield (Queensland, Australia), and was the External CIO responsible for the ICT Master Plan for Greater Springfield (winner of the 2010 World’s Best Master Planned Community Award), which links the precincts of Health City, Education City, Springfield Technology Park, Parkside and Brookwater Village.
Mike has acted as Plaintiff’s Data Center Expert in a multinational lawsuit in the USA, and as an IT Industry and Solutions Expert for Plaintiffs in an IT Managed Services & Cloud lawsuit in Australia.
Mike is the Managing Director and co-founder of Oper8 Pty Ltd, an Australian IT managed services and cloud services firm, specialising in data centre, telecommunications and storage solutions.
As a qualified technician, Mike’s early career positions included National Connectivity Practice Manager for Dimension Data Australia and Global Communications Consultant for Telstra.
Mike holds a Diploma of Applied Science – Computing, is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD), and a Certified CEO (CCEO). He is a member of the Board of Directors, AFCOM Data Center Institute, USA, and was the first board member appointed from outside North America. He is also an active member of the AFCOM Data Centre Institute Brisbane Chapter, and has held memberships with the Uptime Institute (USA), and the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA).
